The Inspiration Behind Our Name

ABC: American Born Chinese
Growing up, "American Born Chinese" or ABC was a phrase I heard a lot. At first, I found it off-putting and borderline derogatory. But as I got older and met more Asian Americans and ABCs, especially in college, I realized I wasn’t alone and that it is an identity that many embraced.
When I started thinking about my own cultural identity and creating a brand that honors our past and progresses our future, a play on the phrase ABC felt perfect. It’s a little nod to our cultural identity, iykyk, and if you don’t, no worries. So, represent to all my fellow ABCs!
ABG: Asian Baby Girl
"Asian Baby Girl" or ABG is another term I grew up with. It has some deeper, more serious origins tied to the rise of Asian American gangs in the 90s, especially on the West Coast and Southern California. There’s a great Reddit thread that dives into this. Some may also find the term offensive, while others have embraced it as part of the Asian American identity. For my generation, it’s a positive and frankly powerful female identity that shouldn’t be forgotten and becomes another piece of our growing heritage.
ABC, 123: Foundations for Our Future
And of course, the first letters we teach our kids are ABC. Asian Baby Clothing was driven by the desire to create clothes for babies and kids so they can grow up representing their heritage. This idea is at the heart of our mission to celebrate and modernize our cultural elements for the next generation.
